Initial Production Check
Case Study - Attention to Detail - Snap Button Issue in Skiwear Accessories
Product Inspection
In a recent inspection, We examined men's and boys' skiwear. Ski garments are complicated, featuring numerous accessories, each with various functions requiring testing. These included metal and plastic buckles, Velcro fasteners, elastic cords, rope fasteners, zippers, keychains, and more. Our testing protocol ensures the proper functioning of each accessory.
During snowcatcher button testing, some buttons exhibited suitable tension and elasticity, while others demanded excessive force to fasten and unfasten. This posed a challenge for inspectors and might prove even more so for kids. This conspicuous functionality flaw was noted. Among the five plastic buttons on the product, discrepancies emerged: some were all too tight, some overly loose, and others varied in tension on the same garment. Notably, around 70% of the boys' skiwear products presented at least one problematic button. With a mere 1cm size, distinguishing between these two button types was nearly impossible visually.
Supplier and factory were puzzled. We examined remaining buttons at the factory, finding subtle differences in appearance. One injection-molded button boasted glossier texture and distinct edges, with its internal protrusion controlling tension situated outward. The other exhibited a darker finish, less defined edges, and an internal protrusion set slightly inward. Evidently, the position of this internal protrusion influenced the button's tightness.
Following discussions with the supplier, they liaised with the factory to determine if button styles were inadvertently mixed. They contacted the button supplier and returned samples for evaluation.
This issue necessitates rework. Every product must be inspected, and excessively tight buttons replaced. Despite the buttons' modest size, they led to significant challenges. Our inspection company's role is to ensure meticulous documentation and advocate for product quality. Instances like this underscore our commitment to rigorous, unbiased reporting, empowering clients with comprehensive insights to make informed choices. We aid them in avoiding potential pitfalls and fostering supplier accountability.
