The Official Journal has published a complete list of European harmonized toy safety standards on 16 September 2008 which apply in the Member States. These harmonized standards are drawn up by European standardization bodies (CEN, CENELEC) on the basis of the essential requirements of the toy safety directive.
The related harmonized toy standards in EN71 are as below:
Part 1: Mechanical and physical properties;
Part 2: Flammability;
Part 3: Migration of certain elements;
Part 4: Experimental sets for chemistry and related activities;
Part 5: Chemical toys (sets) other than experimental sets;
Part 6: Graphical symbol for age warning labelling;
Part 7: Finger Paints - requirements and test methods; and
Part 8: Swings, slides and similar activity toys for indoor and outdoor family domestic use.
Further to the above eighth parts, EN 71 Parts 9, 10, and 11 are being developed to address issues of organic chemical compounds focusing on sample preparation and extraction, requirements, and analysis methods.
