The European Union and the Untied States have agreed to join together in persuading Chinese manufacturers to improve safety of their products. The issue was discussed on 3rd April 2008, in a talk in Brussels held by EU Commissioner, Ms. Meglena Kuneva, for consumer protection and head of US Product Safety Commission, Ms. Nancy Nord. Both parties aimed at clarify common grounds on product safety issues, so as to make the legislation easier for traders to understand and comply with. Although independent third party testing had not yet made a prerequisite, political forces were pushing towards a more stringent policy on product safety. As a result, the imposition of additional testing requirements might be inevitable. Ms. Kuneva also warned toys makers and traders that they were responsible for keeping unsafe toys away from the EU markets.
