The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and the Brents-Riordan Inc. LLC, of Shreveport, La. together announced a voluntary recall of about 7,400 units of hooded sweatshirts and jackets, manufactured in China. The products had a drawstring through the hood, which could entangle children on the neck or waist and posed a strangulation hazard, according to CPSP guidelines issued on February 1996. No injuries were reported. Customers were strongly advised to remove the drawstrings from the product to prevent children from strangling, or to return the products for a full refund.
