The Massachusetts Department of Public Health (MDPH) has improved the Code of Regulations to ban leaded children jewelry in order to reduce the amount of lead exposed to children. Children jewelry that contain more than a total of 600 ppm of lead, or that would expose children to more than 15 micrograms of lead per day, will be forbidden. This requirement is more demanding than the regulations of CPSC and California lead in jewelry. The final guidance documents will be issued by May 30, 2008, and the new requirement will be enforced by June 13, 2008 to give industry time to comply.
