The European Commission proposed a decision requiring mandatory warning labels on all magnetic toys in the General Product Safety Directives (GPSD) Committee on 28th February, 2008. The label will need to display risk of magnets or magnetic components on children. The decision was expected to be adopted in the end of March 2008 and be enforced in the end of June 2008. After three months of the adoption of the new decision, member states will need to ensure that only goods that comply with this labeling requirement are in the EU markets. It was believed that this new decision would increase the safety of magnetic toys.
