
The European Commission adopted the proposal of new regulations on cosmetics on 5 February, 2008, which will unite the cosmetics legislations within EU. The Commission aimed at simplifying the laws on cosmetics and increasing safety by clearing out uncertainties and inconsistencies of current laws. One important element in the proposed new regulation was to ensure product safety. Therefore, cosmetic product safety requirements were stated in the regulations, clarifying information that has to be contained in the cosmetic product safety assessment before placing the products in market. It also clarified accountable parties for product in market, stating that each importer will be responsible for imported products in market. The regulation as well the use of CMR substances, changes in labeling and use of colorants and preservations.
